This report by the hromadske.ua Culture department team isabout a performance called The Skeleton of an Elephant in the Desert. It is the brainchild of Ayham Majid Agha, a Syrian drama teacher who fled from Syria to Germany in July 2013.
A new theatrical production highlighting the personal stories of people forced to flee the war in Syria has premiered at Ukraine’s Gogolfest contemporary art festival. In an interview broadcast on Hromadske TV, Agha said that the war was not his sole reason for fleeing Syria for Western Europe. Prior to leaving Syria, Ayham Majid Agha performed different plays in dozens of villages across Syria over the course of eight years. His hometown is now occupied by the so-called Islamic State.
