“Carpathian” Tatars ” is a short TV documentary about three families of the Crimean Tatars. After the annexation of the Crimea by Russia in 2014 they were forced to leave the peninsula. The IDPs settled in a remote mountain village Borynya in Lviv region (Western Ukraine), where all of them live in a student dormitory. While the women in hijabs and bright shawls engaged in child rearing and home, men work in local forestry, along with other villagers.

Friends help Abdurakhman to repair a house, bought with the UNHCR help. Near the house there are abandoned garages, where men think to open a small smokehouse to produce meat for sale.

This is the story about practicing Muslims who managed to settle down in a new socio-cultural environment, to  establish relations with the local population, while maintaining their original culture
