Synopsis

Competition status – winner

The periodic military escalations around Karabakh have caused human losses, incited outbursts of hate speech and increased animosity between Armenians and Azerbaijanis. Those who deviate from the national trend often taste the bitterness of nationalism the most.

Gunel Movlud Imanova is an Azerbaijani journalist, born in Karabakh, who was displaced during the 1990’s war. Because of her professional activities,  she was forced to leave Azerbaijan and move to Tbilisi, Georgia. Here she met an ethnic Armenian journalist – Edita Badasyan, who was born in and lives in Tbilisi. Both outspoken women, they had to face immense new challenges and controversy over their right to choose a friend.
