During the  Armenian Genocide of 1915, residents of six Armenian villages surrounding Musa Mountain (Musa Dagh) – Kabusia, Yoghunoluk, Bitias, Vakef, Kheter Bey and Haji Habibli –  refused to obey the deportation decree of the Ottoman Empire, instead organizing their own defense force. About 5,000 people resisted, 600 of whom were warriors who possessed only limited weapons and ammunition. After 53 days of resisting the Ottoman army, the rebels were saved by a passing French warship. Today Vakef is the only Armenian village remaining in Turkey. This road film documents one Armenian family’s journey to the land of their ancestors to attend the Vakef annual blessing of the grapes.
