Many different people live in Azerbaijan today. One of them are the people of Udi, who have lived for thousands of years in the village of Nij in Gabala Region. The name of the Udis is mentioned in historical sources. They adopted Christianity and have their own language and culture. Throughout their history in Azerbaijan the Udis have enjoyed friendship and fraternal relations with other ethnic groups. The Udis, who make up the vast majority of the population in the village of Nij, have secondary education in their native language. In addition, for more than 20 years the Udis have a music and drama folk group, which has performed at major festivals across the country and won awards. As one of the minority’s in Azerbaijan and a remnant of Ancient Caucasian Albania, the Udis have preserved their customs and traditions, religion, culture and, most important, language, and are passing them on to future generations. The short film, “The Udis”, made by Kultura Plus TV, depicts the customs and traditions, way of life and religious rites of this ancient people.
